Hydrogeology Projects

Weegar-Eide staff have over 25 years of experience with the varied aspects of hydrogeology.  Our experience includes:

  • hydrogeological assessments and framework development;
  • groundwater availability and dewatering studies;
  • the development, management, and implementation of field projects;
  • the development, management, and implementation of groundwater monitoring programs;
  • the design, management, and implementation of aquifer testing programs;
  • aquifer test analysis; and
  • groundwater modeling.

Our clients include major petroleum, chemical, fertilizer, metals refining, and mining companies.  The following are brief descriptions of some of our recent and current projects:

Aquifer Characterization Studies - Texas, USA

Weegar-Eide designed and implemented aquifer characterization studies and large-scale pumping tests and data analysis for two separate in-situ uranium mining operations in South Texas.  The pumping test results and aquifer characteristics determined by the tests were used for permit preparation and the design of a Class III mineral production well field.

Well Field Design - Sierra Nevadas, California, USA

Weegar-Eide designed and installed a well field for contamination monitoring and performed aquifer pumping tests to determine the availability,  yield, and contamination conditions within a multiple aquifer system at a surface mine facility in the Sierra Nevada foothills in California.  Weegar-Eide is currently actively monitoring the well field and performing ongoing regulatory liaison.

Exploratory Drilling Progam - Central Valley Region, California, USA

Weegar-Eide designed and implemented an exploratory drilling program and aquifer testing and characterization study to determine groundwater availability and volume projections in the Central Valley region of California.  The project was performed to support a feasibility study for  a potential surface mining operation.

Aquifer Pumping Test - Central Minnesota, USA

Weegar-Eide designed and implemented a large-scale aquifer pumping test for aquifer characterization of a surface mining operation in central Minnesota.  In addition, Weegar-Eide staff designed and supervised the installation of an aquifer restoration pilot test system involving an infiltration pond and injection wells. The results of the pump test analysis and aquifer restoration pilot test were used to model and design a dewatering program for the mining operation, and to support the environmental impact statement for the project site.

Hydrogeological Study, Major Fertilizer Plant - Texas Panhandle, USA

Weegar-Eide designed, managed, and implemented a major hydrogeological study as part of a Remedial Investigation and Feasibility Study (RI/FS) for a major fertilizer plant in the Texas Panhandle.  The study included the drilling and installation of groundwater monitoring wells and the design and installation of a groundwater recovery system.  Weegar-Eide is currently actively monitoring the well field and performing ongoing regulatory liaison.

Hydrogeological Study, Metals Refining Operation - Texas Panhandle, USA

Weegar-Eide designed, managed, and implemented a major hydrogeological study as part of a RCRA facility investigation for a large metals refining operation in the Texas Panhandle.  The study included the drilling and installation of groundwater monitoring wells, including double-cased wells that investigate multiple groundwater bearing zones.  Weegar-Eide is currently actively monitoring the well field and performing ongoing regulatory liaison.
